Ontario – Catalina Fellay

Catalina Fellay is a Toronto-based dance professional and academic with a focus on flamenco, classical Spanish and Escuela Bolera dance. Fellay has enjoyed over fourteen years as a member of the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company and a teacher at the Academy of Spanish Dance. She is currently pursuing a PhD in dance studies at York University.

Ontario – Esmeralda Enrique

Esmeralda Enrique is the artistic director of Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. In the 1960s, her first gig with José Greco was in Las Vegas, Nevada, opening for a month-long run at Caesar’s Palace for Frank Sinatra. Enrique founded her company and the Academy of Spanish Dance in Toronto in 1982. Dancers interested in a professional career may apprentice with the company for a minimum of six months. In November 2008, she was voted as one of the “10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians 2008” for her contribution to choreographing and teaching flamenco and Spanish classical dance in Toronto and across Canada.

Ontario – Angela del Sol

Angela del Sol has been performing and teaching in the Toronto flamenco community for over ten years. A longstanding member of the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company, del Sol also appears regularly in tablaos and independent dance/music projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Angela provides ongoing classes at the Academy of Spanish Dance, where her teaching focuses on the improvisational elements of flamenco.

Ontario – Claudia Carolina

Claudia Carolina, dancer, choreographer and teacher, is the founder of Theatre Flamenco and currently lives in Toronto. Carolina lived in Spain for more than a decade working and touring as a dancer. She regularly offers workshops across Canada, and takes groups of students to Spain for intensive flamenco workshops. She taught for ten years at the Alberta Ballet School. Along with her various flamenco teachers, Carolina was influenced by her ballet instructor Nancy Kilgore and Dr. John Weinsweig, who taught her music composition at the University of Toronto.

Ontario – Nancy Cardwell

a family portrait…

Nancy Cardwell (stage name Paloma Cortés) began studying flamenco and classical Spanish dance with Esmeralda Enrique and joined the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company in 1994. Cardwell teaches in a variety of settings including the Academy of Spanish Dance, and several dance studios, schools and arts organizations in and around Toronto. She is currently working on her MA in dance at York University with a focus on the social, political and cultural history of flamenco.
