Carmen Cano de Infante, nicknamed “The Godmother of Spanish Dance in Manitoba”, specializes in Spanish regional dance, especially Andalucían. Born in the southern Spanish city of Córdoba, she came to Canada in 1967 and founded the Spanish Folk Dancers of Winnipeg, Sol de España. She is a founding member of the Spanish Club of Winnipeg (est. 1977), and serves as president. In 2008, she was awarded La Cruz de la Orden del Merito Civil by his Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain in recognition for her outstanding contribution to preserving this Spanish cultural legacy.

Manitoba – Claire Marchand

Claire Marchand has performed across Canada and internationally, including performing as a flamenco soloist at the Canada Dance Festival. Her recent tour of Canada with flamenco guitar virtuoso Javier Conde was recorded for CBC national broadcast. She is currently directing a Radio-Canada television documentary about flamenco artists in Spain.
